We are extremely passionate about creating a sustainable salon experience, and here is all you need to know about what we have in place right now. We Recycle Our Salon Waste
These items that were previously sent to landfill are now recycled!
As a large salon we send 2 lots of recycling waste to be processed every month, and for each one the Green Salon Collective plants a tree!
How It Works
The waste hair we provide to the Green Salon Collective is used for wig making charities, or to help absorb oil from waterways; a recent oil spill from farmland in Northern Ireland left a lot of oil trapped on the shoreline, which was cleaned up using 30-45kgs of leftover hair from UK salons! Another fantastic use of our waste hair is for gardening, because it includes nitrogen which is like super food for plants! The Green Salon Collective give any hair that doesn’t get used for wigs or oil spills to local farmers and gardeners for growing crop!
We love spending our days getting lost in balayages and highlights, but this does often mean we end up with leftover hair dye and bleach. When this waste isn’t recycled, over time the colour and bleach leach toxins that form part of leachate which is a highly toxic liquid. This liquid can pollute our soil and groundwater, and become an environmental hazard for years. Luckily for us the Green Salon Collective now takes all our chemical waste and uses it to generate electricity for the UK National Grid. Read more about it here.
